Nerlens Noel Finds New Home with Dallas Mavericks
Return to Familiar Territory
After a brief departure from Dallas, Nerlens Noel has re-joined the Mavericks via a trade that sent Kristaps Porzingis to the Washington Wizards. The deal reunites Noel with the team he played for from 2017 to 2018.
From Detroit to Dallas
Noel was previously playing for the Detroit Pistons, where he agreed to a contract buyout to become a free agent. This opened the door for him to join a playoff contender before the March 1 trade deadline.
Uneven First Stint in Dallas
During his initial stint with the Mavericks, Noel's performance was inconsistent. However, he reportedly turned down a $72 million contract extension from Dallas before being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2018.
Filling a Need
The Mavericks have been in need of a reliable center since the departure of Porzingis. Noel brings experience, rebounding, and defense to the team and will likely play a significant role in the team's playoff push.
