Celtics Take 1-0 Series Lead in NBA Quarterfinals
Jayson Tatum exploded for 30 points as the Boston Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks 107-89 in Game 1 of their NBA quarterfinal series on Friday night at the TD Garden.
Tatum was efficient from the field, shooting 10-of-18, and also contributed 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Jaylen Brown added 22 points and 7 rebounds for the Celtics, while Kristaps Porzingis led the Mavericks with 20 points.
The Celtics led by as many as 20 points in the second half, but the Mavericks rallied back to cut the deficit to 95-85 with just over six minutes remaining. However, the Celtics responded with a 12-0 run to put the game away.
The Celtics' defense was impressive, holding the Mavericks to just 36.5% shooting from the field and 29.2% from three-point range. Doncic was held to just 30 points on 26 attempts, while Kyrie Irving was limited to 15 points on 6-of-18 shooting.
The Celtics now have a 1-0 lead in the series and will host Game 2 on Sunday night at the TD Garden. The Mavericks will need to make some adjustments if they want to tie the series before heading back to Dallas for Game 3 on Tuesday night.
