Argentina defeated a surprising Canadian team 2-0
Defending champions Argentina will play either Uruguay or Colombia in the 2024 Copa America final after they comfortably defeated Canada 2-0 in the semifinals on July 9.
Lionel Messi scored his 109th international goal and first of the tournament in the 35th minute, giving Argentina the lead.
Lautaro Martinez added a second goal in the 59th minute to seal the victory for Argentina.
Canada, who were making their first appearance in the Copa America semifinals, gave a good account of themselves and were unlucky not to score.
They had several chances to equalize in the second half, but Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was in inspired form.
The victory means that Argentina will now face either Uruguay or Colombia in the final, which will be played on July 12.
